D300 300f2.8 + 1.7TC on monopod. Manual exposure mode, no flash. ISO 1600 f7.1 1/800 sec.
Cropped about 1/3 from the left and slight rotation, plus the usual pp steps.
I quite like this one myself. What do you think?
Oh, one more thing. The original has some blue in the shadow areas of the snow. Do you think it's better to remove the blue? I found that if I remove it entirely, it looks weird somehow
Another super image Desmond.Nothing wrong with snow having a 'bit' of blue adds some definition. Not sure about it ending half way up the bird? I wonder how it would look with the bluish snow ending right a the white gap towards the bottom? Probably not easy to do
Hi Desmond - still like #2 from avian forum best, this one is my second choice.
Personally I think some blue in snow is natural, although gray snow is simply underexposed. Wonder what the experts think.
Excellent set of images.
Gail
Really nice Desmond. Tried to colour correct it for a cast and it came out exactly the same. I think the snow should have some blue in it judging by posts I have seen of snow in other forums.
Kathy, according to my bird guide, a northern goshawk is just a little bit bigger and heavier than an american wigeon. The other day two other photogs went and tried for their luck with the goshawks. This time they saw an adult goshawk and some mallards around, but the goshawk failed to get any mallard. I wonder if it's because a mallard is a bit bigger and heavier than the goshawk.
Nonda, Gail and Jackie, thanks for your opinions about the snow !
Thank you everyone !
I like the wing position, too :)
