I have never been able to figure out what to do with this image. The crop was too big to make it a really good portrait of the heron so tonight I started to revisit the image. I ended up doing a major crop, converting it to black and white, cloning out some branches so they were within the frame and now I'm trying to decide if I like it or not. It's better than the original but...does it work?

Jules, I like it alot!! I feel like the bottom branches are a sliver too close to edge-but just a sliver or you may try taking alittle off the top. I think you are having trouble w/ it because you like balance. I like things to be more unusual, maybe that's why I like it so much!! Great Idea and well executed!!

I think the toning works well. Just not too keen on the vignette....my preference would be for all white

I like except the branches are too close to the edge of the frame. If you have more space there for them to breathe, it would be much nicer. Not sure about the Holga look either.

Yes, much better, but my preference would be to add canvas to the right - I'm all for a bit of negative space!!! I do love this image - the lonely little heron on his minimal perch...it really tells a story...

Thanks, Nicki (and everyone else) for your feedback. I'll either trim down the branches some more or add a little canvas and see if that doesn't do the trick. He is a cute little guy, isn't he?
