i would have never imagined that you would have gotten anything that good with where he was sitting. 1/60s is the reason why you think it's not sharp. should have bumped the ISO and gotten a little more out of it. it aint bad as it is. the flash would have helped to. would lighten around the eyes a little if you could.

i'd say wait til you get to some better shooting conditions before you judge how good/bad it is.

Congratulations on your Owl Mr. O,
I like the capture...the head angle and eye contact is a tad off. I would suggest on opening up the eye to bring out more detail. and give it a round of selective sharpening around the eyes...also with your D300, you could increase the ISO to 640 or 800 to get more crisper details...I like it good show...:)
How do you like the new lens???:D

Oscar, Glad you got out and had a chance to shoot some pics- It looks good- but I do think it is a little soft-agree w/ Harold on ISO-but hind sight is always 20/20! I'm sure you'll get another crack at him!!

Wood open the eyes a bit make them more prominent I like the placement but need a little more owl at the bottom .... should be glad I don't have the whip handy :) Excellent capture !!!!

Good One Oscar, Looks like a dandy lense. Really nice colours and interesting habitat. I like the idea of bringing out the eyes a bit more.

Hey, Oscar, go get the 1.7TC and you can forget about the 500mm :D:D

It looks like the 1/60 sec is hurting you. Kind of soft on my monitor. Good first try with the new lens though.
