    Default Better Beamer Mounting

What is the best method of mounting the Better Beamer to a flash head? In my case I use a Nikon SB-800.

Put a thin piece of loop-sided velcro on both sides of the flash head, and hook-sided velcro on the inside of the beamer arms. Stick'em together and you are good to go. To thick a piece and the arms will tend to pitch out slightly. No biggie as the fresnel lens will pull them back together. FYI- cut some extra velcro strips to be kept with the beamer...as rest assured the velcro on the front of the arms and fresnel will come off in cold weather.

    Best,

    Chas

In a way I am glad to hear I am not the only one who has experienced this issue. I thought I didn't take good enough care of my stuff. Why don't they use glue that with stands temp extremes better?

The velcro strips don't last too long either in the extreme African sun.:(

Want a chuckle at my expense? I was shooting photos of Whiskey Jacks (Grey Jays) backlite by the sun, catching bugs in flight over a bog in the back country of the Rockies one fine day. I had my Better Beamer mounted in place and as I went about shooting photos of the WJ's, I kept slapping at my right hand as I thought maybe mosquitoes or some other type of bugs were bitting me. Later I noticed that the front of my 580EX flash had a multitude of tiny marks on it. I'm sitting there wondering what happened to my flash, when the light in my head went on. The sun had been directed through the fresnel lens on the BB and had been burning holes in everthing in its path including me. Yes, I know what your thinking, Did he not see the warning in the BB instructions? Oh-well I now have a very unique Canon 580EX flash.

    Jerry,

You flash is not too unique. There is a reason the other name for the Better Beamer is "Better Burner":D

I stuck some self-adhesive felt onto the front parts of the flash that seem to suffer most from "beamer burns". Now if I forget, the felt melts but saves the flash.

    Hi Everyone

It's to late to worry about the looks, and besides the burns, the flash as fallen on the ground several times with it now sporting some road-rash. One of those drops broke the red lens on the front. Course it helps to have a Canon repair center down the road from me, where a quick trip over to the center, got me a new red lens. Believe me or not, I am not hard on the rest of my eq. although there was the time my 70/200 f2.8 rolled off of the stage on to the concrete floor below at a music concert, and the time...well you get the picture.

Yep, I have a bunch of those burn marks too.. I think of them as a fine patina, battle scars...

For attaching, I have a few of the large black rubber bands that I bought online for holding my Better Bounce Card..they work great and are always on the head of the flash.. no searching around for them.
