I photographed this White Pelican in Sebastian, FL with the Canon 500mmm f/4L IS lens, the 1.4X II TC, and the EOS-1D MIII on the Mongoose M3.5 atop a 3530 LS CF tripod. The bird was trying to swallow a large fish.

ISO 400. Evaluative metering +1 stop: 1/640 sec. at f/9. Slight crop from the bottomm.

This looks pretty cool, I've never seen a backlit pouch. The blood vessels and fish put it over the top for me.

Love the backlit pouch here, the colours pose of the pelican make this a special image for me. The best thing here is being able to see the fish within the pouch! This probably wasn't possible, but I think this would have been even better from a lower angle. Apart from that a great shot!

this is most of the most interesting pelican shots I've seen Artie. The fish going down is a bonus

Very interesting image. I would be tempted to crop in closer to maximise the impact of the backlit pouch as it is the main subject. That's a pretty decent size fish!

Lovely backlit show of the pouch, and I think you have the perfect comp too. Well spotted and captured Artie.
