Today, I participated in the Dunrobin Christmas Bird Count, -20C (-4F) windy but sunny day..I'd been looking for the Great Gray Owl for 8 days with no luck. So I drove over to where he'd been reported, finally my luck turned for the better and he was hunting in a field...watch him for over an hour as he was catching mice and voles. He was far but with my 300 2.8, I got some pretty decent results. I could wish that the sun was in the right place so both sides of the Owls face was lit...but I haven't seen one of these Owls here in 5 years so, I guess, I have to take what I get. Very large crop almost 50%.

Congrats on braving the weather to do a Christmas count and finding the Great Gray Owl. The lighting isn't perfect but then it's workable. You mentioned this was a large crop........perhaps you might back off on the crop for a more habitat type of image. That might make the lighting and the fence less noticeable. I grew up on a farm with fences......personally I like them as they remind me of home.
Paul I love the intense look its giving you. I've been away and didn't realise that a GGO was in Ottawa. Hopefully it'll stay for a while and I may get a chance to see it.
Hi all thanks for suggestions, which I've used...makes the image much better..Art not in Luskville in Dunrobin.
Thanks Axel...tried this again..used shadow/highlight (8 setting) tool to try and bring more detail to shadows. Paul
