We haven't had a good bloom in the AZ desert for a few years now. This image was captured at Organ Pipe N.M. in 05.

I love your composition here Robert - from the colourful poppies in the FG and MG to the mountain backdrop and the whispy clouds in the sky. The dead plant at right seems to strengthen the composition. Well done.

I like this a lot and the many elements of the composition as well placed. However, the stalk on the right leading out of the image bothers me. I would have included it as it leads the viewer's eye out of the frame.
