the last of the series. i learned a lot from this day. now i want to go back and have another go at it!! oh, to have a pocket full of hundreds and no worries!!;) i liked this one with one with the sun just creeping over the top. but wished i had more room on the right.

D300, 18-200VR at 18mm, f/22, 1/13s, 0EV, +2EV and -2EV, ISO 400. Converted to HDR in Photomatix. the sky looks better in the original. not sure what happened during the conversion.

If I had it to do all over again, i would have shot at 14-bit instead of 12, bracketed automatically in the camera instead of changing exposures manually between shots, and I would have tried to get some compositions that included more area on the edges of the structure. not sure if that would have been possible considering i was at 18mm, but i'd like to see if i could have moved backwards to include more. maybe a 10-20mm or 12-24mm lens would work. anyone got anymore ideas?

    thanks for looking. C&C appreciated.

Harold, I have to say I like this one the best-agree with more room-I noticed the sky looks a little blotchy but not bad- Maybe it's the angle you shot it at but I just find this has so much appeal!!! Well done and look forward to seeing your next series!!!

Harold, very cool structure, where is it located? I would have corrected the image for keystoning for my taste. Nice job on the HDR......

hi richard, it's located in Sheldon, SC about 8 miles east of I95 at the Yemassee exit. agree with the keystoning. we had that discussion the other day on another image. i am not currently equipped to tackle that right now, but hope to be here soon.

    thanks for the comments!

denise, see how the four towers are leaning in towards the structure, not really parallel or straight with the frame edge? that's the keystone effect you get with lens.

Good looking photo Harold. I think it might be real interesting with a bit wider angled lense, not only more room but it it would perhaps place the structure on a rounded mound.

What software are you using for post processing? I thought you were using photoshop and if so you can correct perspective using it.

i use capture nx2. it has a lens distortion correction feature that is not useful in this situation.

    thanks for the comments!

    Doctor Davis,
I like the composition...The first thing that catches my eye is the yellow blotch at the bottom of the frame...need to crop it out, not clone it, if you crop up to that point, you will make the build structure more prominent. as far as the sky goes, it looks good, was your original sky darker? also, how many frames did you use for the HDR composit? { -2, -1, 0, +1, +2 } and did you tone map it?

thanks, gus. the yellow blotch is where light is hitting the ground from rays through the structure. the crop might help. will try. the original sky was as it is on the right and the same as that of the left. the center was pretty blown in all exposures because it was full sun. i see where i can go back it map it a little better and it would present more realistic. the tiff actually looks tons better than this one. and it was three exposures at -2, 0 and +2. it's not those settings everytime. there's a fair bit of trial and error, which can be done at the time of capture, to see what needs to be done.

    thanks again for the comments!

Think it looks good Harold, just the sky has some funny tones in the center, don't have any other ideas to help you because I haven't tried it yet, but thanks for paving the way. Hope to try this weekend.
