these little birds are winter visitors around here. Nothing flashy. But they are the best little Juncos they can be.

The only times I _might_ see them, is during a snow and ice storm. I would love to hear your suggestions on how to improve on their photos, if I get another opportunity.

Cheryl, It started snowing today and this is the first time I saw these guys at my feeders-or at least on the ground below my feeders-Very nicely done, the snowy ground adds alot to your lovely composition!

Cheryl: I always associate Juncos with snow so this makes this a particularly lovely photo. Like the sharpness and sly look.

That is a Little Bitty Beauty! Very nice. The only thing I would even think about changing is maybe to brighten around the eye just a little bitty bit and enhance the catchlight just a touch. Even without that, it's a keeper for sure.

    Default Little bitty Junco

I'm not from your area, so I've never seen a Junco....but I can well imagine this little one on my Christmas card next year:) Love the glitter in the eye as well as the clarity of the feathers. On the solid snow, the contrast makes this one a keeper!

    Hi cheryl:

Beautiful shot, looks like ski tips in front of him. Have never seen a Slate-colored around here.

Thanks for sharing this lovely photo.

Very nice Cheryl. We have lots of Juncos around here and I don't think I have seen a nicer photo of a Junco in the snow.

    Cheryl,
Aren't Junko's adorable?! How to improve?? I think you nailed this one, super exposure, detail and HA all with a snow BG!!! Do like the bit of oomph David gave the eye.

    Really well done

Really really nice Cheryl. Like the lightening of the eye and the added catchlight for more definition.

well, thank you very body! I can't get over how much you like this little bird. gee. All evening my husband kept hearing "they like my photo!!" lol

It took me several days and more than several hundred photos to get this one. these little birds are so timid, and boy, it was cold outside!! This individual displayed an unusual personality from the rest. When the rest scattered when they heard the shutter, this bird stood its ground and in fact was curious about what was making the noise! Nearly all of the images I like are from the short time this individual was up near me.

Thank you, every one! I like the eye lightened, but in reality, I could not see their eyes at all. They are quite dark.

I hesitate to offer a re-post on such a lovely image, but fools rush in... I love the head tilt and the snow bg. Juncos are often called snowbirds. So everything is right with the image, but in good light the bird isn't quite that black. Rather than just focusing on the eye, i lightened the whole image. It looks more like the slates i see around here - at least on my monitor. I am afraid that I have done an injustice to the snow, but the bird itself looks right to me.
    Really lovely image.
    Cheers

Thank you for your repost, Gail. Here the juncos are quite dark or else a dark brown/reddish color. I will see if I have an image of a reddish individual. could that be a male/female color difference?? I don't know.

Cheryl, I like your Junco, too and for me, Gail's repost puts it over the top because of the enhanced detail and more "artistic" look. A keeper for sure either way and thanks for the story behind the image.
