    Default Fox in Flight

Out this AM just after sunup at the beach looking for Purple Sandpipers - None!
Heading back down the road along the road by the Salt Marsh and there was a Fox hunting.
Drove past by 1/4 mile and got set up just as it came into this space - only got two frames before it got wind of me! 1/3 crop at iso 800, TV, aiservo, center focus point, f8, EV +33 - 1DMk3 on a 500mm f4, hand held - Bob

Wow!! Sweet capture, great timing, placement in frame, really like the intense concentration of the fox.

Great shot with perfect timing and nice dof. Only suggestion would be to get rid of, or minimize, the shadow on the foreground grass.

Thanks to all for the comments and Bill here is one with the shadow gone and a few blades of grass cloned out.
I feel it works better. Bob

Great action captured and the repost looks even better. I might sharpen the fox a bit more.

Axel, There is motion blur from my 1/800 setting - did do a selective USM and more selective Smart Sharpen - but your comment sent me back to SS for another look - thanks, Bob

I like the sharpening, it caused some halos, though. What do you think about this one?

Axel, That is the one!!! Can you tell us what your PP steps would be working from RAW to a finished result?
    Thanks, Bob

As already mentioned, outstanding image. Timing was perfect, exposure and comp look great. The added sharpening really make this a winner.

I think it looks great and just needed some more sharpening. I made sure to select the fox only to avoid halos and applied 100/0.3 and lens blur in "Smart Sharpen" (CS3). Does this help?

A great capture and the repost is an improvement. I'd take some off the bottom, maybe even do a square crop.

    Bob,

The reworked shadows and sharpening put it over the top. The look of the fox in the grasses is perfect. Well done capturing this action.

    Bob,

This is OUTSTANDING, I only hope the original is sharper than the attempts to correct it as presented.
FYI- you do mention the shutter-speed.

    Best,

    Chas
