    Default Bummer! Goldeneye flight.

Somewhat of a grab-shot. I was photographing ice patterns near shore when this gal zoomed by closer than usual and nearly caught me offguard. (Pssst...check "macro" for what I was concentrating on...:D) I was not concentrating on the usually distant goldeneyes...but new they were around so I did keep my guards up incase -hence the "somewhat" grab-shot. The "bummer" part of the title comes form the fact that everything looks great (IMO) except the subject motion blur on the head/face area...bummer! Just to show how even the slightest "subtleties" can make or break an image.

Been there done that! What a shame, because you couldn't ask for better wing position. Exposure looks great too.

The wing position is great and yes, sounds pretty familiar. :) I might blur the BG some more.

Dan nice linght on this bird. I agree with your self-critique. Was this created on the Ottawa River by Mud Lake?

Perhaps we should build a floating blind with a cable link to the little island? That's really the only way I think that we'll be able to get close enough to these Goldeneyes

Stephen, yes that was at that location. Check out this post on how rough the river was yesterday...these goldeneyes are quite hardy little buggers swimming in that stuff:

I'm thinking of heading back there early with a large white blanket to cover myself to blend in the snow...they seemed to favor this side of shore before I got there.

Dan perhaps you should bring an Arctic quality sleeping bag to lay on on top of the ice and snow too. Perhaps arriving before sunrise would put you in the best position (unless some sleeping mallards wake up and give you away!).
