    Happy New Year, Everyone!

I have the use of a 400 5.6 lens for the next two weeks so I went out this afternoon to try it out. Moving from a zoom to a fixed lens felt a little strange at first and not having IS takes some adjusting as well. But I'm happy with this image; I like the colors in the water (reflection from the trees that still have yellow leaves) the swirling water and the pose. Would have liked a lower perspective but not possible at this site. C&C always encouraged and greatly appreciated.

As you've mentioned a lower angle would have improved this image significantly.
Otherwise, I like the composition, the beautiful colors and lots of detail you captured here.

    So do I.

I would be tempted though to darken a teeny tiny little bit to see if I could get richer colors out of it.

    Happy New Year, Katie !!

Happy New Year Katie..I agree very nice colors and the bird is sharp, agree with Desmond on maybe darkening just a bit? Fine job!

I love the 400f5.6, one fine lens for moving targets (BIF) and tis very sharp. It is different if you are use to zooms. It is one lens that will always be in my kit and every time I get a chance to use it I fall in love all over again (Don has it glued to the 30D now). I think some of my very best squirt images were made with that lens. Have fun with it!

Katie, agree w/ lower angle-but love the water colors as they are. The HA is good and you have plenty of detail-maybe just a little more room all around to inc. water swirls

    Hi Katie:

Lovely shot, sharp and colourful, like how you caught the water dripping off his beak.

    Well done, thanks for sharing.

agree with desmond and nonda about trying to darken up that water to get some richer tones. it was my first thought. did well with the high angle. perfect pose for that situation i think! nice job, love the sharpness and details!!

    Hi Katie,
A lovely image indeed. I like the composition and the placement of the duck in frame. I like this as presented...I like the light, soft hues of blue and pink...its has a very pleasant mood. The details are sharp and the color rendition is in check...well done...

Lovely Katie, great pose and the colours in the water are gorgeous. A wee bit of sharpening in the eye maybe?? Not sure.....
