My best whishes to everyone and have a very happy 2009!

No I didn´t get a D3X. This image is from the same series of my last post (http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ad.php?t=26774) but a litle bit earlier with more light and the birds closer to the lens. In fact this image is a composition of two vertical frames because the birds where really close and I was shooting with the 500VR+1,4XTC. I was tempted to remove the 1,4X-TC but I didn´t like the idea of do that having these guys so close to me and lose the oportunity of a good photograph. With the bre 500 lens it could be easy to include the three birds in a single frame but very tight so I decided to keep the 1,4XTC and to shoot two vertical frames and now I have a 23Mp image with the composition that I wanted, with plenty of room around the birds. In many photography competitions this image would be not allowed but... who cares, I created the image that I wanted and that is the most important thing. Isn´t it?:)

Nikon D2X AFS Nikkor 500VR+1,4XTC handheld, VR on, 2 vertical frames, manual exposure, 1/800s, f6,3 ISO320

All the best to you for the New Year, Juan. I've really enjoyed your images, critiques and good humour over the past year and look forward to more of both. Love the comp and symmetry of poses and reflections. My only wish is for more warmth to maximise the pink flamingo feel. This version has had a fair nudge toward red in colour balance and probably looks nothing like what you saw.

Nice one Juan. I agree with your last statement too ;-).

Only thing that could make this better is bill separation from the body on the left bird. I like the comp, and colour of the water. I also like the light seeping through the nostrils, very neat.

P.S. Tony posted his repost while I was typing mine...nice job on warming up the colours. I like both, with a slight nudge towards Tony's :-)

Beautiful image Juan. Thanks for sharing this one. The still water and soft light is just great.

I do like the warmer repost also.

The one small item I could mention is the touching bill on the left bird. I thinking moving a few steps to the right if possible might have taken care of it, but this is a fine point. I like the image as is.

Beautiful graphic quality to the composition, lovely light also. Repost looks good too. Great idea to stitch two together!

    Great idea and great image!
Everything works really well - the light, the poses, the perspective, etc
I also like Tony's repost - fantastic colors.

    Happy new year!

Very well thought out Juan resulting in a super image. I prefer the original colours although the repost is also very pleasing. The simplicity of the thumbnail made me open the image and the larger version didn't disappoint, beautiful and a wall hanger in my book. One small question, does the image need just a little clockwise rotation ? I never know with these reflection images if the reflection should be directly below the detail in the top portion.

John you are right about the CW rotation, the image needs a couple of degrees rotation. Very good eye :)

Tony thank you so much for your kind words. Much appreciated :)

I like your idea of warming up the image and I reprocessed the original adding a litle touch of warming but in a lesser amount that you did because the flamingos looks more red than they actually are. Very good eye ;)

Robert I didn´t noticed the detail that the bill in the left bird is overlaping with the body. Good point and I totally agree with you but it was not possible to move to the right because there were a lot of reeds. :)
