Hard to believe that BPN is celebrating its one-year anniversary already. By coincidence, I'm celebrating my 3,000th post today. We've seen some awesome images over the past year. And we've also seen some tremendous improvement in many of our members' image submissions. I'm looking forward to a great 2009! Happy New Year to everyone! This image was taken about a year ago in Northern Utah. The BG is a snow-covered mountain. The owl was doing some hunting at last light. This is one of my favorite images from 2008.

Looking forward to Costa Rica! Maybe our paths will cross Juan. I've actually got a number of trips planned in the coming months. I'm off to co-lead Jim Neiger's flight workshop in a week. I've got another Utah trip planned for February. And then Costa Rica in April. Not a bad way to spend the next 4 months!

Happy 2009 Doug and congratulations for the 3000th post. You selected a superb image to celebrate the first year of BPN, the 3000th post and the new year. No critics in this one just a big wow because the light is outstanding, and the pose is fantastic and the BG is sweet. Would love to have this one in my files :-)

Congratulations, Doug. Great image and milestone. Can see why this is one of your favourites. Lovely BG and complementary colours showing off the owl beautifully - even the head angle is good!

My favourite Owl, I could watch and photograph these stunning birds all day every day and I also never tire looking at images of them, especially when they're this good.

    Nice work.
