    This Rough-Legged Hawk was sitting peacefully on its perch when I pulled up next to it in Sierra Valley, north of Tahoe City, CA, in January '07. He briefly turned his head but then focused again on the field ahead of him and didn't seem to mind my presence.
    I opened the window and started taking pictures. He turned, probably curious about the shutter sound,... and jumped off his perch when he saw me. It was pretty funny.

    Unfortunately, I clipped his right wing...

    I really like the "in your face" look and approach that you are getting with this one and I like the composition. The bird appears soft and OOF......perhaps focused with perched but not when he moved toward you. It can be difficult to keep a bird focused as he's coming right at you. Unfortunate for the clipped wing.....but I think many of us have been in that situation. Hopefully you did get some nice images while he was perched and can post some of them.
