Well this is a first for me , night photography . I was out the night before last patrolling a dead power line when this guy just missed our truck and landed in a tree right next to us . Heart ponding i stopped the truck and rushed out with my camera. This is the best i was able to get :)

Wow Good for you Glenn, I think this is a great photo given the notice you had for it. I am a bit confused about what the camera/lens settings were, would you mind repeating them? Tks,
    Dave

    Dave,
Camera was Nikon D50 70-300mm VR at 220mm , 1/60sec , F 5.6 Onboard flash fired. Also had line truck search light on him. Think i had the camera set at Auto.

Glenn, it's important to bump the ISO to as high as you can afford in these situations. it's hard to hold 1/60s to get a sharp image and i can see a little camera shake here. could have gone to ISO 800 and gotten a lot faster shutter speed. congrats on the find!! this is a perfect example as how flash fills in the shadows of a side lit bird.

What a find Glenn! Nice job under the conditions, really nice.

Now what seems odd to me is one side of the face is sharp and the other a bit blurred?? How'd that happen?

    Hi Glenn,
I agree with Doctor Davis on increasing your ISO factor. See if you can lighten the eyes just a tad, and selective sharpen just slightly not too much...you got yourself a winner...very nice...

Did well Gelnn !!! In these night time images the shutter speed is not the most important thing since flash will help out with the sharpness !!! As presented would crop from the right !!

... btw when I come up to something and my brain freezes I have gone to Program :) No shame in admitting !!!

Thanks all for your comments , Harold thanks for the info ill try higher iso's , this was really a grab shot with no time for preparation.
Nonda i think its probably my fault i had to wipe my lens a few times ,it was blowing snow , could be a cause for the blur.
Again thanks all for taking the time :)
