Default Another tripod question - wimberley head

My Gitzo tripod has a Wimberley head attached (vers I).

I have noticed that the wimberley head is very easy to loosen from the tripod mounting screw when the head is rotated.
Somebody suggested that loctite might be the answer but I wanted to check with some other experts.
What is the purpose of the the 4 allen bolts? I've tried tightening the central allen bolt but the problem still exists.

    Any suggestions

    cheers

    Gavin,

I would suggest writing to Tripod Heads (the Wimberley manufacturers) on issues such as these as your whole expensive rig rests on it. If I am not mistaken there are no user adjustable parts apart from the usual locking and unlocking of the panning and tilting head.

Fine adjustments are done at the factory.

Hi Gavin With the head in good working order you still need to be careful since it will loosen and those screws have nothing to do with it. It does wobble before crashing so you should have warning. I make it a point in checking for looseness in all my gear, habit !!

    Hi,

I'm new here so I'm not positive that it'll help but I recently purchased a G3541 tripod w/o a center post and it has an allen head set screw under the plate that screws in and contacts the bottom of my Manfrotto 393 gimbal head. It does help to prevent inadvertant loosening of my head and have read on a couple of other forums that the plate from the newer Gx5x1 series (i.e. G3531, G3541, G5531, G5541) can be purchased and used on the older Gx3x0 series (i.e. G3530, G3540, G5530, G5540) effectively, like purchasing an upgraded tripod without the entire cost. Hope this may be of use.
