Like others I am trying to do something about NR so am trying out Topaz Denoise. I would appreciate any and all comments on this. The underside of wings, basically the bird, was in the shade so to speak.

Dave at 400 I'm not sure why would have to be concerned with noise? .. unless you underexpose and this is fine.

Base exposure wise you should have been very close For exposing the underside of a bird you generally need one stop but with a good bank probably less. Image is very sharp maybe a little contrasty Love the pose, head position and curled primaries Got a real nice one !!!

    Hi Dave,
I like the capture and the wide spread wings...agree with Mr. Forns on the techs. The thing that hits me off the bat is the level of contrast...the wings don't look natural to me this way, if you reduce the contrast, going for a softer feel without sacrificing detail and sharpness, you have a winner...

Ok thanks for the tips. I'll try it again with out the Topaz and see what happens. It seems to me the Topaz gives a sort of silky feel to the photo.
When I convert the RAW file I can still bump exposure by 2/3's. I see the bit of blue sky, but we get so many cloudy, diffused light days and generally the shots are taken looking south so noise is often present, or at least to me. It's all an experience.

I was one of the "couldn't figure it out" folks, too. Sharp image and good pose but it does look funny in a way. Other than that, looks very good to me !!

I'm seeing a fairly heavy cyan cast. Levels adjustment:

Thanks David. There is certainly a lot more to photography than taking a picture.
