    Another Coot photo. I was not sure of the crop; does this work?

    Canon 40D + Sigma 50-500 F4-6.3 APO DG HSM
    ISO 400, 1/400 sec, 500mm at f8, partial metering -1/3

    The low angle on this is great. However, I think this would look better with a verticle crop, if you have the room. That way you can have more headroom above the duck and still have the reflection. I might also add a little selective sharpening to the head and tone down the whites in the beak.

    I think the bird lower in the frame would work better. Some fill flash would help with the strong side light. I think a lower shooting angle would also improve this image. Good fopcus tracking on a bird that is moving fast towards you.

    I agree with the suggestions you got and think a vertical crop might work better and it definitely needs more room at the top.

    Love the position but the image is soft, plus looks like you were in the wrong side of the light.
