Female Quetzal

Going through my RAWs from CR: one decent shot of the female, big crop.
500mm, f8, 1/1000, ISO 1200, Noise Ninja in PP.

I like the head angle and BG. The eye looks overflashed, easy to fix in PS and the plumage looks a bit oversharpened. I would put her further to the right in the frame. The perch looks good but quite large for a bird this size and I would tone down the highlights on it. Great to see a female of this species!

Susan- Agree with Axel's comments. Eye and sharpness are easily fixed. Too bad she is looking into the short side of the frame. Any chance of adding come canvas on that side? Problem is the perch which you would have to add, from another photo maybe? It would be a tough job to dupe portions of this perch, although it could be done. If you can do this I would then crop from the right.

We focus so much on the males of the species, but the females are quite beautiful in their own right. Agree with Axel's and John's suggestions.

Agreed. Since this is a big crop I'm sure you have some room at left to put back in, and then trim the right some. I like the fern (?) growing out of the perch :-)

Actually there was no more room on the left. The crop is all from the right. I added canvas and duped the log. Sorry, I know you'll mention the repeat of the lichen on the log. I did it in a hurry.
