    Default My First HDR!!

    Attached Images Attached Images

this is my first true HDR image! i got Photomatix and have found my true love!!! this program is absolutely the BOMB!!! i took this while i was at home in NC this past week. i grew up fishing on this lake. it's called Bellamy's Lake and is located in Halifax Co.

i took three exposures at +2, 0, and -2. converted to jpeg and dumped them into photomatix. after it spit out the final tif, i worked it in CNX2 with the color control points to get it like i wanted it. anymore ideas? btw, i color balanced this image and it took every bit of the feel away by removing the natural warmth so i put it back in there.

    D300, 18-200VR at 18mm, f/18, 1/40s +2 and -2, ISO 400

thanks for looking and c&c appreciated. on a side note, i posted a pseudo-HDR of the Old Sheldon Church II if you are interested.

    Excellent Doctor,
I love the colors and silky hues and tones...It looks like a painting...you are going to have a blast with this program I like it myself...I love the way you framed the tree line leading or pointing in the direction of the lake...good show...The only thing needed is to run the ruler on the water line, to check the level...:D:)good show...a definite wall hanger in my book...

I think the trees leaning in make it look like the horizon's off - but yes - I see the waterline is indeed straight....

Beautiful image. Just one question: HDR? or should I search through the forums - I'm sure it's here somewhere..... I'm just out of touch.

High Dynamic Range. the way i understand it is that a camera only has the ability to capture about 6 stops of light, whereas this image has a range of 10 stops of light.

    thanks for the comments!!

Nice HDR Harold. You got the colors better than I have been able to do in Photomatix. I looked for more info on getting the settings right but no luck so far. I love that program also. Show more of it. Good job.

thanks, bill. i used the settings as per the tutorial. the key for mine was using the color control points in CNX2, which would be equivalent to Viveza in PS. will post more tomorrow!

    Not so fast, Harold:

    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fuji...pro/page18.asp

The example below shows just how much exposure latitude you can - if needed - get out of the S5 Pro's raw files if you exposure for the shadows (i.e. slightly over expose compared to when using any other SLR)...[snip]...but with a little experimentation it's possible to get a huge dynamic range - over 12 EV - out of a single exposure, which is pretty impressive stuff.

    Good shot you got though!

Hi Harold...not much more than I can add other than you have a lovely image with a difficult exposure situation.
    Well done!

Very Nice Harold, and thanks for posting. It looks very smooth and real. The post and idea of photomatrix adds another photgraphic opportunity.
