    Sth Luangwa NP- Zambia.
    On the Luangwa River, home to more Hippos than anywhere else in Africa.

    Nice golden light and the dripping water off the chin is a nice touch. Skin looks a bit overly smoothed but maybe its a layer of wet mud?

    Marc,

    I like the vertical comp but wish you had been more to the right to have gotten a better head angle. I guess you just never know when they are going to do something.

    Hi Robert

    I would have liked a slightly better head angle as well, it would have been somewhat difficult as it was taken inside a hippo hide built into the banks of the Luangwa River.

    Anytime we suggest moving here we know at times is just not possible :) ... don't want you out of that hide !!!... btw hope its sturdy !!!

    Light was harsh but you got a goo exposure. btw is there mud on his snout? Neat looking animal !!!

    Yes, it was mud. Reaching the end of the dry season, there wasn't too much depth left in the Luangwa.

    However sturdy the hide might be, I won't love the Hippo to bang it. :D I am sure it would be exciting watching these giants from close quarters.

    I love its teeth. I would try to bring down the colour temperature a bit, that would also help in the white patch of skin near its mouth.
