    Default An old friend....

Last December just before Christmas, we went kayaking on the Hillsborough River and encountered a Red-shouldered Hawk eating a fish. As I took pictures, a Great Blue Heron came in and tried to get the fish away. One of those shots was the first I ever posted on BPN.

Today, we were back on the river, and guess what?? My friend the red-shouldered hawk greeted us, and sat in a tree by the river while I once again sat and took his picture. I know this was the same hawk, because he is missing his right eye.

I know I'm shooting up into the tree, but I didn't have many maneuvering options.

we have a mama GHO at lox that has one bad eye. must be the hazard of flying through all those trees!

i like your capture here. nice detail in the bird. might run a little NR across that blue sky. looks a tad noisy.

    Amy,

Good colors and detail on the bird and you do have eye contact! Nice exposure too.

    Everything else covered.

Hi Amy Its always a treat finding them again I'm always amazed at how they survive since depth perception must be way off !!!

btw the only other suggestion is a lower angle !!! Excellent !!!

We're going back out this Sunday - I will try to get to his part of the river with enough time left before our pickup to sit and watch him longer, if I see him at all.

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone.

Al, Yes - "nice low angle", huh? If the angle were any lower, I'd have worried about getting droppings on my new lens!

    :)

    Amy
