Looks like pretty miserable conditions, Eric. I like the snow on the perch. I am having trouble seeing anything really sharp - I suspect the end of the perch is the sharpest area which is making the subject look soft. This may be simply a resolution issue if this is a big crop. I think the biggest issue is that the bird is just too small in the frame. These little subjects are very challenging to get close enough to. Good choice to use flash but I think the image could stand brightening up a little. Waiting for a little less head turn may have given a catchlight in the eye which would have added a lot of life to the image Posting your shutter speed and aperture with the ISO gives us an idea of how restricted you were in terms of light

    Hi Eric,

There are several problem with this image. The bird looks out of focus and too centered in the frame for my taste. I would also try to get the bird bigger in the frame for next time. The BG is extremely distracting but these are critiques you can consider for the next time.

    Good luck and keep trying!

    Thanks!
