This is a wild bird in a zoo on a railing. It was taken on the last day of Artie's Bosque #2 IPT at the Rio Grande Zoo in Albuquerque. We were there to photograph ducks when this fella swooped in to check us out.
I kind of regret that his tail is cropped in this photo, but I like it very much regardless. The strong side-light, great background and beautiful bird give a very painterly look to the image. I pushed the sharpening a bit more than usual to accentuate that look.
I hope everyone enjoys the result.

I know what you mean about the clipped tail....it would have been nice. I love the lighting and ohhhh....that BG. Are the chest and legs a bit "hot'? I have a very new computer and don't really have everything setup yet so it could be me. If this is pretty much full frame you could also crop out to just a head shot for a different type of image as well. I like this guy, too!!
Oviously, getting the bird's tail in there would have made a very nice image, even nicer. The background is great for accentuating this bird and the sharpness looks good.
beautiful light, as Lana commented the legs and breast do seem a bit hot.
If you really like it, work on adding canvas and constructing a tail....if you do that sort of thing. The bg tone/smoothness is awesome
