    Default Lesser Flamingos

I captured this image very early one morning about two weeks ago at a large dam in the Northern Cape. I know it breaks the "rules" with the two subjects touching but for me it actually enhances the the total appeal of it (?). Comments are always welcome:)

I think it works because of the way they overlap and because of the symmetry (kind of like fighter jets flying in formation). You have a clear look at both heads, breasts, and all 4 legs. You got a little lucky pulling this one off at f/6.3! Like the pano crop.

Definitely works despite the overlap. Eye contact, both sharp and symmetry of poses does it - Doug's formation flying analogy is good. The BG is largely smooth but some noise around the birds - probably just need to refine the masking between the sharpening and NR layers.
Just got a copy of Robert's handbook - love your raptor paintings, Chris.

Great light, details, BG and similar position. It certainly is not your typical composition but it works for me, too.

Very nicely done, as always, Chris. Rules are made to be broken if you know when to do so. Clearly you do. The pattern of the overlap, the placement of the birds on the background strip and the pano crop are all great, as are the essential technical details. For me, the light puts this one over the top.

Great image Chris, it definitely works for me. Good job with the DOF they both look very sharp.

Only minor comment would be on the noise in the BG and in the reds. That is an easy fix.

beautiful symmetry and color Chris....the offset in position is perfect to display the important parts
