Well a few new things to tell you here. Bought Noise Ninja and today was my first attempt using it. Did a NR on the BG and some chroma noise on the beak.
Also got Photomatix but that will be another learning curve and for another day.
The weather has been bad for shooting I haven't made it out. Don't want the gear all wet so I am behind on the motifs. (Either blizzard like winds with snow or today rain):( This is from about a month ago. Hope to get out on Friday if the weather cooperates.

I also tried using the new camera profiles for ACR CS4 mentioned in Arties last bulletin and set it to Camera Faithful which is the setting I use in-camera and I like the PP colours better.
Just sharpened around the beak/eye area as I like my pics a little soft.

    C & C appreciated!

    Nicely done Lady Jackie,
I like the composition, image and close up capture. I like the tucked bill. Your whites are almost pushing the envelope, but they are within the range...you have good details and very good color rendition...I like it very much...:)
Happy Holidays to you and your family...

    Hi jackie:

Nice capture overall, nothing to dislike, all plus, plus, plus!

Sympathize with your weather, received a photo today from my nephew in the lower mainland of B. C., Coquitlam with 2 feet of snow and 2 coyotes looking out from under the trees through falling snow. Brrrrrr, and here we are sitting out on the back porch in bare feet, shorts & t-shirts . . Tough eh!

Keep warm & Happy Christmas to you & yours

I like it Jackie Good strong composition, I like eye placement and overall detail. Did get the most out of the whites without going over, histogram must have looked good !!!

Not sure if its even possible but might try getting some detail out of the eye !!

Jackie - Lovely image, great composition. Ought to be on a wall somewhere.
How about a few comments on Noise Ninja - how hard was it to get started, what differences do you notice in this image and do you run NR in PS,...?
And once you have Photomatix up and running - same questions.
Crummy weather is for learning new software, I guess.

Gail, not hard at all. Just did it on auto for now.(only used it once) And I thought the blacks on the beak looked true without the greeny-purply specs. The great thing about it is you can sharpen and remove noise at the same time. Gives you great control and it has a lot of windows and adjustments, and I posted a question in digital workflow and it has profiles for your specific camera which you can download as mentioned by Dan Brown in his great explanation. Well worth the money IMHO.
Photomatix looks difficult to me. Will let you know how I make out. Also as mentioned by Fabs you can Google it and get a coupon for a 10 percent discount from "before the coffee", just enter it in the coupon discount area beforethecoffee (no spaces).
