When I first got interested in bird photography, I wanted to practice. Going
to a local bird spot could be a hit or miss. So I figured, why not go some
place where I'm guaranteed a few birds?
So basically, thats how I first started to learn about birds and my equipment.
BTW, that isn't a shadow on the face. I get asked that alot when I show
this thing.

You have mentioned a great way to get good practice and it does pay off. The sharpness on this one is good....and where it should be. Colors are very nice, as is exposure. It's just a little too tight and he especially needs some room to look into. If this one was cropped, I'd add some room back. Are the darker areas in the BG OOF fence, something cloned, or just something OOF? I'd probably clone them out.
Yep, its just cropped for this forum. The darker area in the background is well, the
background :) The background was painted with fake branches, so thats probably
what that is.
Yes great way to get some practice Doug and certainly no problems here with regards exposure and sharpness. The composition needs a little attention - its generally best to leave some space in front of the bird to either look or fly into. Good effort.
