This image is similar to the one I posted earlier. I experimented with different angles, and the angle in this one is higher.

Love the comp and perch on this one-a slight head turn would have made it perfect

    Hi Axel...

While the perch is of course nice, I preferred the body and head positioning on the first image.

In addition, to my eyes, the surf behind the bird is just enough to grab my eye a bit too much.

I like the over-the-shoulder look but it would be much improved to see both eyes.

    Hi Axel,

Good composition. The owl is nice and sharp. I would like more eye contact, it does look right IMO.

I agree that if the far eye was visible it would be a stronger image. Quite the peculiar perch, and the owl chose an odd spot to set itself on :-) I really love the beach setting that you guys have had the chance to photograph it in.

Hi Axel. This one does have a bit of mystery to it as the viewer is left to wonder what the bird is looking at. If the second eye was visible it would put this one over the top, IMO. I agree with Jim that the whitish surf is a bit distracting (and I think it changes the mood of the image), but that could be toned down or removed, if you chose to do so.

I like the composition Axel! Everything works for me with the exemption of the missing eye! I wish I could see both! Cheers!

Besides the right eye not visible, I love the soft light and dreamy feel of this one. And the perch is outstanding.

    Hey Axel,
You guys are making me a bit jealous with the snowy images......but they will have to wait till I get back to try. I don't mind the look or the waves......as they are soft enough IMO.....to form a nice BG. Did you explore this with a crop off the top, removing the top lighter band (try it with a browser crop). This does cut the log.........but actually accentuates the direction the owl is looking and the waves........which I like. Either way.........can't wait to get back and try these myself. I'll keep you posted to when I'm going and maybe we'll meet up.......for now I'll stay warm in S. Miami!

Thanks, Roman! Interesting idea, I have some more images with and without wave and eye contact. I might try a tighter crop and see if it looks good.

You should definitely try to photograph them. Who knows if they will return anytime soon. Let me know when you go.

    Stay warm 'down there'. :)
