Thats a beautiful picture John, liked the BKGR and the light on the Elk.
I am planning to visit this place in these holidays, would appreciate if you let me know the places to see here.
John,
Such a lovely scene. Lovely light. You were at the right place at the right time. Watching wildlife in such light, is a very pleasing experience. I would have liked the complete legs.
Cheers,
Sabyasachi
The elk are at Pierce Ranch outside of Inverness towards the end of Tomales Point. Here's another image shot during poorer lighting--Canon 40D , 105 mm, ISO 400, f 6.3, 1/400
Great light, sharpness an exp John! I see you found the Elk! I to would like to see the legs but still very nice shot!
Good luck over there and Happy Holidays!:)
Gorgeous light John !!! Fine looking image I like the selected crop different and works!! Big Congrats !!!
I would have loved to see this shot in the portriat format with the legs and more of the rainbow. Stunning light....
Nagesh,
As Dave said the Elk are near Pierce Ranch. I was really lucky Monday morning as the herd was just coming over a ridge when the sun came out. There is more to come. :)
As for other opportunities up here I haven't explored that much yet as the weather is dismal (besides Monday morning) and most interesting places (e.g. Limantour Beach) require a hike from the parking lot. Not something I am up to in gusty wind and gushing rain.
The Elephant Seal colony at Drakes Beach is small. I counted about a dozen on Monday from the overlook near Chimney Rock.
Hope that helps. JR
Thank you all for the kind feedback. Yes, I also wish I had gotten the whole elk into the frame but I still like image a lot. It was difficult to isolate an individual elk from others in the herd with the rainbow in the back. Probably should have switched to another lens and take more of a landscape shot. Oh well...
