I took this photo a few years ago at The Nature Conservancy's Tallgrass Prairie Preserve (39,000 acres). I came up over a hill and came upon two big bulls rolling in the dust. They were caught a bit off guard. One ran off and the other stared us down. This photo is of that big fella. I seriously wondered if he was going to charge us! Took this from the drivers side through the open passenger side window.

I converted it to a B and W and cropped a bit -- I really like how it looks in this format.

Nice conversion, centered works here, although it would probably look stronger as a vertical. Centered composition tend to look better when framed vertically. Thanks for sharing this one!

Here it is in vertical -- I really like it this way as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Mike,

From the lens you used, it seems it was close to you. The image needed a bit of clockwise rotation. In the vertical repost, I feel removing a bit from the bottom and showing more of the sky would be good.

Both the compositions convey different meanings. The horizontal talks about the huge expansive landsacpe. In your repost the vertical forces you to look more at the bottom at the grass. So I cropped a bit from the bottom. I reposted your vertical version. The clouds have clipped highlights. You may try to work on those in your original. Did bit of contrast, tone curve.

    Cheers,

Hi Mike I like the vertical For me the horizontal works better with even the animal smaller in frame. Processing wise it just needs a some contrast and curves as shown !!

I agree with you both -- the vert is nice because you can see more of the bison, but I really liked the horizontal because it conveyed that sense of the bison alone on the vast prairie. I'll play around with it a bit more. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions
