Been a while since I posted, here is a Cardinal I took a little while ago, have to say I love the Wimberley Head, what an amazing piece of equipment.

    Canon 1D Mark III, 300 2.8, 1.4 Converter.
Bogen legs, Wimberley Head, ISO 500 f5.0, 1/250th

Wind was really blowing, hard to catch them still for a second.

Love it. Looks like a decoy set on the snow. As posted it looked a bit over-SAT. I took lightened it, reduced the SAT, and took the blue cast out of the shadow.

The repost makes this nice capture more justice. I might clone out the spot in the upper right and sharpen the bird more.

Nice image, the repost is an improvement also. Flash would have helped to even out the light.

As Axel pointed out some USM wouldnt hurt.

For a 300-2.8 the wimberely 2 is a little over kill I think, I would save 4 lbs and go with a mongoose 3.5a, or better yet handhold.

Robert, I have used a couple other heads, and handheld, but this by far is more enjoyable and the balance is amazing. My 8 year old son spent 30 minutes taking bird phtoos with the setup, and got some decent shots. I considered the mongoose, but there is a good chance I will have the 500 down the road, so will already have a good set up for it.

Thanks every one for the suggestions and re post.

Thats great to hear! Your son is lucky to have you, maybe he will someday become an accomplished photographer...you never know, maybe in a few more years :-)

The Wimberley V2 is way-overkill for the 300 f.2.8 and much, much heavier. Robert has been using the M3.5 for more than 3 years first with the Canon 600mmm f/4 (I do not recommend that for most folks) and now with the Nikon 500 VR. I have been using the M3.5 for more than two years with the Canon 500mm f/4 and more recently with the Canon 800mm. If you tried a Mongoose for ten seconds you would never go back.... I used Wimberley heads for 15+ years. We sell both products; I like to see folks wind up with the lightest head that offers superb handling.
