    Default Brown-Capped Rosy-Finch

I went to the top of Sandia Crest yesterday (close to 11,000 feet in elevation) in a quest for Rosy-Finches. When we got there the temperature was 20 degrees and the wind was blowing 30-40 mph! It was brutal. I did manage a couple of good frames, this being one of them. There aren't many places in America to see Rosy-Finches, but they sure are worthwhile to photograph.

The sharpness is just perfect here Doug. Amazing quality considering the conditions you describe. I haven't seen many portraits of this species but I would guess that this is one of the finer ones.

As usual another perfect shot. The sharpness and the colors are amazing and I would echo John; given the condition this is an outstanding composition.

Great find, I'd love to see this species sometime. I like the details and eye contact, not so sure about the end of the perch.

Amazing pose and details with great eye contract, especially considering the conditions. Agree with Axel re the perch end. Just burning it to darken it would probably make it less eye-catching.

Love the bird, the colors, the sharpness, and the BKGR. With the perch angled towards you, the broken end is distracting. Is it a perch that you put up?

It's a natural perch, and the Crest House is a difficult place to shoot. You photograph from an observation deck and are not allowed to set up your own perches. Clean perches in even light are tough to come by.

Well then, you did amazingly well. You could have asked the little bugger to sit on the end of the branch....

Did you do any work on the BKGR?
