Today was my second outing with my new AF-S VR 600/f4. Went to photograph this stunning male Mandarin (Aix galericulata) that has spent the last months in a pond just south of Stockholm. One can discuss the orgin of this bird, but here in Europe they breed freely but is also held in bird parks.

    D200+MB-D200, AF-S VR 600/f4. ISO 400, 1/640, f 6.3, EV -0.3.

Very nice portrait, I like the pose and light. The BG at the top is a bit busy, how much of a crop is this? Enjoy your new lens!

    A very nice duck.
I believe the file size is too small and that's why you are getting noise and sharpening halos. Please try to make it ''heavier'' I am almost sure it will work here.
So many beautiful colors need to be displayed!!!

Itīs a crop about 50% and shows sharp on my screen. Donīt have the time to correct the size now, but will do it as soon i get a chance.

    Thanks for your help.

Had a male and female at my feeders in the begining of the year, I've a small pond nearby and they would often come over to the feeders to eat the dropped seed.

Great pose and colours but like the others have said, file size has hurt the quality on this.

Lovely bird. I agree about the distracting background. Enjoy our new lens (he says jealously), wish I had the cash and strong back for equipment like that.

Wonderful framing and a perfect head angle. Killer colors. Darkening the pupil would help.
