big welcome to BPN and awesome first post!! i like the reflection and think it is clear enough to be part of the compo.. one thing that i notice is that it is side lit. would have more detail and better exposure on the head and shoulder if you had the sun coming from behind.

    great job....keep em coming!!

    Hi Chris,
A big warm welcome to the BPN family. I like your composition and capture. You have good details and a a good head angle and eye contact. The reflection is a big plus...agree with our Doctor Davis in reference to the side lighting affecting the way that your subject is illuminated...Must keep in mind that the sun should always be at your back so you can get nice even lighting...I took the liberty in making a few adjustments and enhancing your base image to illustrate a few points...the image per say is a little under exposed...I opened up the mid-tones in the blues and the brown hues on the bird and made it a tad lighter...also selective sharpened around the eye and face area. see if this present well to you...

Very nice. I rather like the side lighting. It has a nice modeling effect, bringing out the bird's roundness.

If this little creature were nice enough to model for you, you could have placed a reflector above and to the left. Absent such cooperation, you could open the shadows a bit in Photoshop. (I'm not recommending this crop. Just did that do home in on the shadow.)

Just a cautionary note: When adjusting brightness, need to be careful not to clip highlights.

    Hi Chris Big Welcome !!!!

I like working in very low light and you will make some fine images, here the problem is light direction. When you have part of the bird in shadows you will be in trouble.

Wold eliminate the reflection since its not adding to the image and just make a tweak regarding density, looks strange when you over doit !! For the repost added some canvas and still feel the image is somewhat tight in frame. Did not do anything worth while with shadow/highlight just lighten a bit !!

Thanks for all the input Folks, I'm still very much a beginner with the ol' PS. I like what has been done to the image and will have a go myself ( not tried some of the disciplines shown above yet!....lazy git!). I was trying to be a bit arty, guess I've got a way to go. I had had ago at the eye prior to posting, obviously not enough, when downsizing for upload should I re-sharpen before uploading?
Thanks again for your time and advice
    Regards
    CB
