Taken during brown bear boat trip with Art Morris, the image was altered slightly. The original had just a sliver of the eye showing, enlarged eye slightly, and the image was cropped slightly, would appreciate comments.

    Hi Monte,
This is great action. A few things that you can do to re-work your base image is as follows: The background is too hot and distracts from the main subject; you need to tone down the whites. The water line needs a some CCW rotation, the water line is not level; the brown bear is way too over sharpened, and the eye is not visible. It would have made a stronger composition if you would have just waited until Mr. Bear opened his eyes to squeeze the shutter button. Looking forward to your next one...

gus covered everything quite nicely. one thing i have been doing lately in most all situations with wildlife, birds, etc is to shoot bursts of three with every composition. sometimes it's hard to tell by looking through the viewfinder if you have to exact proper head angle or even eye angle for that matter. in this situation, if you had done that you may have gotten one with his eye open. cool action for sure!!! that's one huge fish!!!

Hi Monte If you post the image without enhancement would like to give it a try I don't know what is going on exactly but the overall tone seems odd to me? Most of the bear images have the same patter? Did Artie see those in the laptop?
