I had to travel to Toronto this past Tuesday morning for meetings downtown. Because of the location I flew into the Toronto Island airport which is a 4 minute ferry ride from the mainland.
I remembered seeing Long Tail ducks there two winters ago but I didn't have a camera with me. This time I was a little better prepared but I couldn't bring all my gear (no Bigma or flash).
I only had about 10 minutes of shooting, while in a business suit ;), but I ended up creating this image plus a few others. My colleagues, other travellers and the ferry crew were amused at my enthusiasm. :D
Canon 40D, Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 + 2x teleconverter. F9.0, ISO 640, 1/250 sec No Flash
A big crop and the light was poor (fill flash would have helped) but these were the first images that I've had for this beautiful species.
That is a cute duck! I think I do the same all the time. If I see a bird I hadn't seen before I just get my camera and take a few shots no matters how they come out. After I that I start trying to compose and working on the exposure. Cheers!
Hey Stephen,
This guy has eluded me also.........hopefully when i get back to NJ..........they will be in. I can almost image you in the suit........with the Bigma (I prefer Pigma...after a full day of carrying)...and the look on the passengers & colleagues faces....now that would have been priceless. All in all........well done considering the circumstances.
