    Default Blue Wildebeest

    Attached Images Attached Images

Captured in the Kgalagadi, South Africa, earlier this year in the winter season so the dry yellow grasses were a perfect back drop.

Using Nikon D3, 500 VR + 1.4x converter on bean bag and panning plate from vehicle, F/5.6, 1/800, AV, matrix metering, no bias applied, minor crop top and bottom for composition, Raw conversion using Capture NX 2.

Your comments / suggestions are very welcome and appreciated, john

Lovely habitat and colors. Wish you could have gotten a little higher a not to have him so close to the dissection in BG, but fully understand that is not always possible.

Thanks for sharing this one with us :)

    John,

I love this composition but agree that a bit higher to get him completed separated from the grass to sky line would be the ideal. The grass to blue sky contrasts so well and the Wildebeest looks great in it.

You might try opening up the shadows on the Wildebeest using PSCS SHadows/Highlights.

Agree with Fabs and Robert on comp but understand the limitations of working from the vehicle. Nice colors in this image. Shadow detail looks good on my monitor...

    John,
This image works due to the colours. Agree with the comments given regarding separation of the horns from the grass and skyline border.

    Cheers,

Agree with comments regarding placement Sure is a good looking image if anything might desaturate the sky a little!! Dont' have any problems with the shadows either I'm seeing lots of detail in my monitor. Big Congrats !!!

Thanks very much for your kind comments and observations regarding the angle of shooting, as you know we are not allowed to exit the vehicle in the parks so couldn't really do anything about that, I fully agree, a better shooting angle would have been more suitable.

Sorry for the late response and may I take this opportunity to wish everyone at BPN and its members a very joyous Christmas and a happy and healthy 2009, all the very best.

    John
