the great horned owls are back at lox this year. i think this is daddy. i felt like the luckiest guy in the world to get an owl shot with a decent bg and fantastic perch!!! even if the light was low and i had to bump the ISO to uncomfortable levels.

D300, Bigma at 500mm, f/6.3, 1/100s, 0EV, ISO 1000, flash as main? with better beamer at -1.7EV and this is full frame.

on a side note, i shot at ISO's from 1000 to 3200. anything over 1250 is not usable at all. 1600+ is mush.

thanks for looking. comments and critiques appreciated. if you guys dont like this, I QUIT!!:)

the original file at 187kb uploaded at 51kb so this doesnt look as good as it could.

Hi Harold Have the same experience with the ISO Normally don't like going over 800 with the D300 Need decent light for pushing it more. Its a combination of poor light and lesser image quality !!

Like the straight at you look a lot and managed a clean bg !! Are they back at the same tree? I know last year they had moved !! ... wonder how Owen is doing !!!

It will resize images that exceed a max width of 1024 and max height of 800, or over 200kb file size.

Yes, that perch is fantastic and I like the pose and the direct eye contact. All in all, pretty darn good, Harold.

Harold, don't quit! Beautiful image especially at full frame. I love the "sleepy" eyes looking right down your lens. Very nice and what a special moment.
