the change to shutter priority, and as Alfred says, "a little bit of light" gave me this opportunity. this hawk flew up and perched about 10 yards from me. its nice to have a tripod, but i had to pick all of the gear up and hold itto my chest to point it up into the the tree.:)

Hi Mike Glad you had more light for this one and bummer on the steep angle that made you do strange things with your tripod !!!!

When you do get light try having it come from your rear, it will light up the bird evenly !! Here was coming form the left, lots of times you don't get a chance because the bird moves or is just impossible to get there.

As presented you might want to select the darker face and lighten a bit !!! btw image is sharp !!!

    I like the capture Mike,
The first thing that hits me, is the very steep angle of capture. The area around the eye is too dark due to the harsh uneven lighting angle...you need to track the light...as Mr. Forns Mentioned; the light or sun has to be at your back for even pleasant light distribution...

thanks guys. the opportunity was there, so i grabbed it. i was going to dodge its face but i think that would just make it look flat. i'll do what i can on the light.
