Default 1/4" socket for Canon tripod mount ring

Hello all. I was wondering if anyone has ever had to replace the socket on a Canon tripod mount ring. The entire unit sells for about $150 at B&H but since my ring is fine I'd love to buy just the socket.

    Why are you laughing? ;)

Has anyone done this, know of any place that would sell this part?

    Thanks in advance.

Sure John. I'll have a close-up posted here a bit later today.

It is the socket that bolts down to the foot of the ring - two philips head screws through a circular plate. My socket separated from the plate.
The unit in question is Canon's Tripod Mount Ring B (W) that fits 100mm macro, MP-65mm macro, 180mm macro, and 300mm f4L IS lenses.
The part is a standard Canon piece used on many if not all of their Rings.

Here are the images. The first one shows the part as it should be in one piece.

The second shows a different view as it is in two pieces.

Larger sizes of the images are viewable at my smugmug page where these are hosted.

I see what you mean. This is not a difficult job to do in a lathe. I have one at home and that's how I would do it. The thread is standard UNC (course). If you have trouble I can make you one.

That is a most generous offer Dr. Chardine and if it comes to that I'll certainly make it worth your effort. Thank you.

I do want to see if any place does sell these though, KEH was my first thought but that didn't pan out. If anyone knows of a source, even just a small local shop, please let me know.

I am not in a hurry as I have the same ring in black from my 180mm and it sure is nice to have that as a backup.
