It is quite rare to find snow geese in Western Massachusetts. I photographed this young bird in very low light on Thanksgiving.

Nice one Axel. I like the way the overcast sky gives a silver color to the disturbed areas of water. Whites are held nicely.

Good one Axel, nice detail and the water circles a plus.

Pretty darned sharp for 1/160 sec. handheld at 18.2X magnification... I wonder what caused the stains on the face. Goo head angle BTW. Do you have any with the complete reflection? (That might have worked here.)

Lovely contrast in colours as the goose really stands out against the darker BG. This is well exposed too. Great image Axel.
Thanks, Artie. I have some with complete reflection but the water was not calm enough and the reflections look distorted.
I have no idea where the stains come from. I thought this might be normal for juvenile birds since it's only been the third time that I have seen a snow goose and it is the first young bird.
Definitely not normal but not uncommon either. The stains are often a result of the birds feeding on roots and tubers in soil that is rich in iron.
