I have been spending some time at the local marshes, today the weather was pretty cool and occasionally there was reasonable light. I am struggling a bit with BIF and the 20D especially if I use the 1.4TC with the 500mm lens. (this is a cue for all the 50D owners to say John you NEED a 50D!!)

I like the bird in environment aspect - hope you do too!

A really nice composition. Unfortunately the bird is very soft-not sure if from the capture or processing.

I really like the wing position and the eye contact!

The image is nice, composition works well and the B/G plus the F/G long grass look good too. The bird isn't as sharp as would of liked, maybe a bit more selective sharpening will help.

I'd go for the 1Ds for faster tracking capabilities.....

Pleasing image apart from the softness - you'd better get the 50D on your Christmas list quickly :D

I like the wide crop and pose and agree that the bird needs more sharpening.

Very striking composition and flight pose. I agree about the softness but love the direct eye contact you captured in this image. Thanks for sharing Johnathan.

I like a lot what you did here Jonthan showing us the SE owl habitat in winter. I think that the composition works fine but another round of sharpening mask would be great. Well done!

Comp wise, I would maybe take a bit off the top. I love the wintery colours, and agree with the others on a bit more sharpening. Still, well captured
