    Default American Goldfinch on berries

Another image from this weekend. We had a snow/ice storm come through and it got the birds all whipped up.

Mike I really like the pose, the berries and the falling snow.

Perhaps a bit more DOF at say F6.3 to bring the tail into a bit more focus. Did you boost the saturation in this image? The colours seem really intense.

Well done, Mike. Lovely BG and intense colours. Agree a slightly smaller aperture would have increased DOF which would have been nice - may have streaked the snow too which I think would have added to the image. Could maybe stand a little more sharpening around the head, eye , bill.

Pretty nice Mike, more DOF would be nice - but looks sharp where it needs to be so it's no biggie (but I agree some USM would be advantageous). Could stand a slight crop from above (about 1/3 off the empty space), and I personally don't think there are enough snowflakes to leave them in. Otherwise very nice, and quite lovely colours. Great BG!

I agree with the previous comments as well. The snow flakes bother me most. I didn't realize what they were until I read the text (been in California too long I guess). I think I'd pull back the saturation (or maybe luminance) some on the berries as they pull the eye as they are now. The position of the bird is nice.

The berries and the BKGR are the bomb. I am fine with the d-o-f. Wish the bird were a bit more in profile.

    You guys are good!
Leroy nailed it when he said "luminence". I dial that back if something is too shinny as the berries were at one time. (Thats what she said) :D
I agree with taking some off the top and instead of taking out the few snowflakes, maybe I'll add more in. :) Thanks again!

Lovely comp Mike, and I really like the colours in this. What a perfect BG to round this image off. Well done.

    Thanks, Stuart!
I should probably give some credit to my friend Stan Tekiela for letting my use his cabin and set up... he has tall brown grass and cattails about fourty yards behind his row of feeders and we do setups right next to the feeders. :)
