Default Sandhill Cranes leg positions while flying?

I noticed after Bosque and seeing so many cranes that many of them hold their legs forward instead of out behind them while flying. Is there any particular reason why or is it just that, sometimes one way and somtimes the other?

    Thanks
    Nancy

Would love to see an image of this Nancy! Just can't imagine what it might look like!

I seem to recall an image or two from somewhere in which long-legged birds in flight tucked their legs into their bellies in the case of extreme cold. Would that explain this behavior?

Beth that might just explain it. I have still to PP those images showing that, but when I do I will post them.
