    Default American Wigeon

Thanks to BPN member Gary Rouleau, I discovered a great place to photograph Wigeons yesterday. We had to wait a couple of hours for decent light but thankfully the birds waited with us.

Another great flight shot. Love the wing position and water drops. The image seems to have a slight magenta cast to me. Here's a version with a little less magenta and a little boost in colors via a Lab color shift. That said, I still wish I had anything close this good in my files of a widgeon :)

I always like the ducks blasting off! The re-post is decent, maybe a bit heavy in saturation in the greens.
Doug, what size files can we post here?

Cool pose, details and BG. The colors in the repost look better on my monitor.

This is as good as it gets. Specatcular. Perfect head angle, wing position, and we even see the far speculum.

Average blur on the duplicate came out like this: R:157 B: 129 G: 116.

The repost is my attempt at better color balance.

Well, the wings look much grayer. The first repost is too SATed and too contrasty..

Thanks for all the hard work on the image everyone! Artie, could you please explain what you meant by 'average blur on the duplicate?'

Make a duplicate of the original. Then go to Filter/Blur/Average Blur.

It will average all of the pixels to a single tonality. Then look at the info pallete and it will give you all of the RGB values making it easy to see a color cast by looking at the actual numbers.

Artie's repost I think has gone too blue on my screen. Somewhere between the OP and that would be good. I set the gray point in curves on the shadow area on the breast, then applied a very slight S curve for a boost in contrast. The image as a whole is great. Wing position, eye contact, focus.. all top notch.

Im going with Doug's original. Love the take off posture, amazing colours all over, and I like the hint of droplets on the chest. Great image Doug.
