Default Northern Pintail ...one more time

    Sorry, nothing exotic here.

    D300 2004-400 @ 200mm on monopod. Manual exposure mode, no flash. ISO 1600 f5.6 1/400.

Small crop for composition purpose. Converted to black and white with CS3.

It hit me today, while watching some of them on a cloudy day, that northern pintails could be good for black and white images.

    Your thoughts?

Beautiful! Shows just the patterns which are awesome on those guys. Cloudy days are good for something after all! Thanks!

Desmond I'm not a fan of B&W for birds but this looks really good !!

You might try downloading LR 2.0 and doing the conversion, amazing control for tweaking mid range contrast !!! As it is it looks really good but you can take it even further !! Big Congrats on this one !!! Really like it !!!

Desmond- I love B&W, when done correctly and I think you did a very good job on this- detail looks good as well! A little more room on left for me

    Hi Desmaon,
I like the composition...the duck is placed just right in frame. The details a contrast are good. It has a good feel to it...

Nice feel to this image Desmond. I'm a fan of B&W images, but I've only done one in B&W and I think this one is great.
    Congrats

i love b&w and this one rocks!! looks like it covers a lot of the tones. agree on trying to boost the midrange contrast just a bit....would make it pop more!

Agree with the comments already expressed; I think I'll try this so thanks for the inspiration, Desmond.

Very nice Desmond, I think I am with Denise with a little more canvas to the left. Looks like a good conversion. Might just put a line around it so it is easier to tell where the edges are.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions, everyone !

This one I was kind of lazy in doing the conversion. I would go back and see if I could do more to the mid-tones.

Katie, go ahead and try your hands on B&W. Like denise says, if done correctly, B&W can be beautiful! Haven't you heard that "B&W is for photography, color is for painting"? :)

Beautiful b&w conversion, Desmond. You've got hard white, hard black and lots of gray shades inbetween...excellent!
