A couple weeks ago I looked up to notice this beautiful white pelican flying across my line of vision -- I particularly like the looks of these birds in flight. It was a nice day and I had been photographing diving brown pelicans, so with a "too-short" lens I aimed at this guy and got this image, which I've had to crop quite a bit. I've heard that optimally the wings should be up or down, however . . .
Appreciate your C&C . . .
I personally am ok with the wing position you've got here since it looks like you were photographing from a higher perspective and so both wings are visible to me. Light looks harsh and so not ideal. But the details seem to be still there. May be a bit more sharpening to the eye could help.
That is called an American White Pelican and I actually like the wings shot like that, with the black wingtips, the curl of the feathers is neat. Love those Pelicans! Hard to go fast from shooting Brown Pelicans to a white one. Do you know about Genuine Fractals? Check it out for bypassing pixel limitations!!! Great Christmas present to yourself!!! Frys has it cheap now!
Agree with Patty Wings are fine since you are photographing from the top, from the side it would fall in the "photographing a pancake from the side" image !!!
Only couple of things, the light is harsh and bird is slightly looking away. When the sun starts to be a factor I like placing my neutral density filter and going for blurs !!!
Hi Wendell,
I like the composition. You were shooting in harsh light. I like the wing position with the raised tips...good advise given...looking forward to the next one...
