It has been a very windy day in the dunes and while I was up in the tern colony, I noted a whole lot of katydids (a sort of a grasshopper) bouncing around all over the place and taking flight among the grasses in the dunes. As it was windy, some of them sailed away rather quickly.
A while later, I watched through the binoculars as the sanderlings seemed really enthusiastic about grabbing some food source other than the minute sea life and bugs they normally catch along the waters edge.
I went down to get a closer look, laid down and watched and low and behold, one of these delectable grasshopper types blew in on the wind and landed on the waters edge and was pounced on instantaneously. Fortunately, this sanderling broke away from the voracious pack of others, which allowed for some subject isolation, rather than a clutter of confused sanderling bodies.
