I'm curious about something Mike. Do you set your camera on Aperture Priority? I have a similar lens and your shutter speeds seem to run a bit lower than mine do. Of course you might be in low light though. All that aside her feather details are pretty good for 1/100 sec.

    Hi Mike,
I like the capture...a few things to keep in mind...the image is a bit under exposed. The bird looks soft and dark around the eyes. The head angle is off. and he is sitting too high in frame. I did a few modifications to illustrate this...I cropped from the bottom to eliminate some of the negative space; cropped from the left side of the frame and added canvas to the top to give him more head room. I opened up the blacks to bring out the details around the eye and selective sharpened. also boosted contrast and saturation...my suggestion to you would be to start using fill flash for these types of captures and or increase your shutter speed and start working with lower ISO numbers...instead of 800, try going down to 640, 360 around there to eliminate the possibility of the noise factor...I also toned down the hot spots on the feet, and toned down the background a bit...see if this presents better...

Agree with Gus Just a few changes did make a difference Remember the head angle. Sometimes you can make a little noise and they will turn for you !!!
